The Veil of Arms

A gesture that shields as much as it reveals. The face withdraws behind the arch of the forearms, and the body becomes the only voice. I asked for almost nothing — only that the arms rise, and the rest follow. That is often when the image arrives: when the pose stops being one. The raking light does the rest: it catches the loosened hair and lets the tension of the forearms tell what the face keeps silent. Anonymous, and yet more intimate than a portrait.
