Elopement Photographer in Ardèche
Intimate weddings and destination elopements in southern France.
Elopements have stopped being a workaround for those who can't afford a wedding. They've become a deliberate choice — a wedding day shaped around the two of you, the place you love, and the few people you actually want there.
I'm a French photographer based in Ruoms, in southern Ardèche, and I cover elopements across the south of France. My approach is documentary and quiet: I follow more than I direct, and the day moves at your pace, not the photographer's.
Most elopements happen at a private mas in the gorges, in a small château, at a hilltop village or in the lavender fields. A short symbolic ceremony, a long lunch, golden hour in two — sometimes a handful of close family. That's enough.

Frequently asked questions
How does an elopement differ from a traditional wedding?
An elopement is an intentional, intimate ceremony — usually two of you, or up to roughly 20 close guests. The day revolves around the experience and the place itself, rather than logistics. No DJ, no seating chart, no first dance unless you really want one.
Do we need witnesses for the ceremony?
It depends on the type of ceremony. A French civil wedding requires two adult witnesses; a symbolic ceremony has no legal requirement and can be celebrated entirely just the two of you. I can introduce you to local officiants who speak English and run symbolic ceremonies.
How does the paperwork work for non-French couples?
Getting legally married in France requires at least 40 days of prior residency for one partner, plus translated birth certificates and a few other documents — a long process. Many international couples handle the legal part at home and travel to Ardèche for a symbolic ceremony, which is what we typically photograph.
Do you speak English?
Yes. English is not my native language, but I've covered weddings and elopements for couples from the UK, the US, the Netherlands and Germany. The whole process — call, contract, day-of communication, gallery — happens in English.
How far in advance should we book?
3 to 6 months ahead is ideal for elopements; longer for peak summer weekends. For lavender-field ceremonies (late June to mid-July), book as early as possible — the window is narrow.
Can you also cover a full traditional wedding?
Yes — see my wedding photographer in Ardèche page for full-day coverage, packages and a typical timeline.
