Between the Cévennes and the Mediterranean — images that tell your South of France.
The Gard is a département of contrasts: to the east, the garrigue (Mediterranean scrubland), the golden stones of Uzès and the Pont du Gard; to the north, the Cévennes, their schist and soft light; to the south, vineyards and the Mediterranean air drifting towards Nîmes and Sommières. Photographing a wedding in the Gard means working with this diversity — and knowing how to capture what makes each location unique.
Based in Ruoms, about 1h30 from Alès and 1h45 from Nîmes, I regularly travel across the département for wedding reportages that blend Cévennes elegance with Mediterranean warmth.

My Experience in the Gard
I had the chance to photograph the wedding of M. & J. at the Domaine de la Bédosse in Alès, last September. A day that mirrored the region: the estate's golden stone in early afternoon, the cool shade of the gardens during the cocktail hour, then that golden late-day light descending over the Cévennes for the couple session.
The Gard rewards photographers who know how to wait — the evening light is particularly generous, especially in September when temperatures ease and the horizon takes on those characteristic pink-orange hues.
Iconic Wedding Venues in the Gard

Pont du Gard and surroundings
A UNESCO World Heritage site, the Roman aqueduct offers a monumental backdrop for a late-day couple session. Nearby wine estates (Vers-Pont-du-Gard, Castillon-du-Gard) regularly host ceremonies in their wine cellars and gardens.

Uzès and its gardens
France's first duchy, Uzès is a golden-stone town with intact narrow streets. Several hôtels particuliers and surrounding estates (Vallée de l'Eure, Pouzilhac) host weddings in a French Tuscan atmosphere.

Alès and the Cévennes
The north of the département takes on a different character: schist, chestnut trees, deep valleys. The Domaine de la Bédosse, where I recently photographed a wedding, embodies this Cévennes identity with its stone, soft light and closeness to nature.

Sommières and the Vidourle area
Further south, towards the Mediterranean, Sommières and its medieval bridge offer a warmer, drier setting where the garrigue (Mediterranean scrubland) dominates. Common reception venues: mas, bastides, wine estates between the Vidourle and the Vaunage.
The Best Seasons for Photography in the Gard
Two windows stand out:
Spring (May-June)
The garrigue is green, temperatures are mild and the days are long — ideal for outdoor ceremonies. The light is soft without being harsh, perfect for couple sessions in late afternoon.
September and early October
The second prime season: warm light without the harshness, pleasant evenings, and estate stone taking on those golden tones that define the visual identity of the south.
July and August are possible, but the Mediterranean heat requires adjustments (late afternoon ceremonies, shaded areas, misting fans) that couples should plan for with their vendors.
