Wedding Photographer in Vaucluse

Wedding coverage in Avignon, the Lubéron, around Mont-Ventoux and throughout Provence — since 2019

The Visual Identity of a Vaucluse Wedding

Vaucluse is a wedding that smells of warm lavender, golden Lubéron stone and Roussillon ochres. A wedding where the light is whiter than elsewhere in July, where the plane trees of the Comtat Venaissin shade the banquet tables, and where you marry just as happily in a Ménerbes bastide as at the foot of Mont-Ventoux or in a restored Châteauneuf-du-Pape farmhouse.

Photographing a wedding in Vaucluse means composing with this strong Provençal identity: the ochre-lavender-olive green palette, the Latin elegance of open-air ceremonies, the golden late-afternoon light on pale stone. It also means capturing the mistral ruffling the bride's hair, bursts of laughter under fig trees, and that Mediterranean softness that makes guests more open to emotion.

I work without a drone, in documentary style, at the level of emotion.

A Real Story: Amandine & Hugo, in a Lubéron Village

Newlyweds under a canopy of Provençal plane trees, couple session during a Vaucluse wedding

In late summer, I accompanied Amandine & Hugo for their wedding in a Lubéron village. One of those days when September light turns amber, when the dry stone of the restanques warms in the early afternoon silence, and when Vaucluse offers its most authentic gift: time slowing down.

For the couple session, we made the most of the village's vernacular architecture: an old-fashioned dry stone wall, narrow lanes, facades weathered by the seasons. Then we stepped out of the village, into the shade of a canopy of centuries-old plane trees — one of those tunnels of foliage so characteristic of Provençal roads, filtering the light and lending every step a cinematic quality.

What I remember most from their wedding is that intimate black-and-white couple portrait taken later in the day — a stolen moment, almost graphic, where everything condenses: hands settling, the tulle of the dress spreading, the bare nape. Three frames, three moods, but the same Provence — sun-drenched, sensual, elegant.

Iconic Wedding Venues in Vaucluse

Lubéron: Ménerbes, Gordes, Bonnieux, Roussillon, Lourmarin

The golden triangle of Provence weddings. Golden stone bastides, vine terraces, Roussillon ochre cliffs in the background. Estates such as Bastide de Marie (Ménerbes), Domaine de Capelongue (Bonnieux), or charming Gordes guesthouses attract local and international couples seeking Provençal authenticity and refinement.

Avignon & surroundings

Cultural capital of Vaucluse: Palais des Papes, Pont Saint-Bénézet, historic townhouses in the old centre. Elegant city-heart weddings, or receptions in surrounding estates (la Barthelasse, Châteauneuf-de-Gadagne, Châteauneuf-du-Pape). Perfect for couples seeking heritage and TGV accessibility.

Sault & Mont-Ventoux

France's lavender capital. July weddings amid purple fields, views of the Giant of Provence. Several lavender estates open their doors for open-air ceremonies — a sun-drenched, almost cinematic atmosphere. A unique setting for couples dreaming of a 'Provence postcard' wedding.

Comtat Venaissin: Carpentras, L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, Pernes, Vaison

For couples dreaming of an authentic wedding, away from the 'Lubéron postcard' circuit: quintessentially Provençal villages, fountains, plane trees, Sunday markets, antique shopping in L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue. Another Provence — more secret and more genuine.

Rhône Valley & Châteauneuf-du-Pape

For wine lovers: prestigious wine estates (AOC Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Côtes-du-Rhône Villages), vaulted cellars, endless vineyards. Autumn weddings are particularly successful here, with flaming vines as a backdrop and harvest scenting the air.

When to Get Married in Vaucluse?

May to mid-June

The dream season. Poppies in the Comtat fields, soft light, evenings still cool. Lubéron gardens burst with colour. Highly sought after — book 12 to 18 months in advance.

Mid-June to mid-August

Full Mediterranean season. Lavender in bloom around Sault and Valréas from late June, peaking in July — the ultimate Provence postcard. Bold light, harsh midday sun, perfect for relaxed terrace weddings as long as you plan for shade.

Mid-August to October

My favourite season for Vaucluse. The late-summer light — the same light from Amandine & Hugo's wedding — turns amber, golden, almost autumnal. Harvest in the Côtes-du-Rhône and Châteauneuf-du-Pape from September, a unique atmosphere. Mild temperatures, ideal for outdoor couple portraits.

In winter, for more intimate weddings, the heated bastides of the Lubéron offer a magnificent mineral setting under Provence's cold light. Avignon in winter is also very photogenic, with its lanes deserted by tourists.
